Alice is passionate about planetary science. Before InSight landed, we computed high-frequency synthetic seismograms with the Direct Solution Method (DSM) for several geological scenarios of Mars, predicting the complexity caused by a regolith layer at the surface of the red planet. During Alice’s thesis, I wrote the code “MarsMTInversion”, which uses a database of Green’s functions computed by “DSM Kernel Suite” to locate marsquakes recorded by a single station and estimate their focal mechanisms. This code is the engine of Alice’s thesis. Alice then looked very carefully at the seismic data, considering both their frequency content and the absence of surface waves, and interpreted her results with her geological analysis based on the topography of Cerberus Fossae.
